Health and medical information sessions
Note: Due to health worker involvement in the Covid-19 pandemic, their associated fatigue, and competing priorities the Court has not and do not, in the short-term, plan to schedule replacement sessions, virtually or on premises.
We conduct information sessions specifically designed for health professionals. These sessions assist health and medical practitioners to better understand the coronial investigation process and their obligations under the Coroners Act 2008.
The range of topics to be discussed include:
- reporting a death to the coroner;
- the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine forensic pathology investigation;
- the health and medical death investigation process; and
- inquests.
Attendees will hear presentations from a forensic pathologist, a coroner, and our case investigators specialising in health and medical related deaths.
Who should attend?
General practitioners, hospital medical staff and those involved in medical education, clinicals heads of departments, nurses, nurse educators and clinical risk managers are encouraged to attend. Please note the cases presented have a clinical focus, but due to time constraints will not cover mental health.

Clinical educators
If you are involved in medical or nursing education, please email the above address with your contact details to be added to our Clinical Educators Contact List.
Please note: Unfortunately the Coroners Court of Victoria does not have the resources to have speakers attend on location and present to staff groups. The only form of education the Court currently provides is the Information Session for Health Professionals hosted at our premises in Southbank.
