The investigation process
Coroners investigate all reportable deaths, all reviewable deaths, and fires that are reported and in the public interest.
The role of the coroners is to investigate certain deaths and fires to determine how and why they happened, and to help prevent similar fires and deaths from occurring.
Death investigation process
A coroner's investigation involves a few organisations who work together to make the investigation as timely as possible.
Fire investigation process
The State Coroner may choose to investigate a fire if it is in the public interest. There does not have to be a loss of life.
Exhumations
An exhumation involves retrieving a person's remains from a place or burial, usually for further examination.
Reviews and appeals
You may apply to the court to reopen an investigation, or set aside a coroner's finding or decision.
